The Influence of Estriol on BHRT

The Influence of Estriol on BHRTConsidered the weakest of all estrogens, estriol binds to the same receptors as the other estrogens and has the potential to block receptor availability.

The blocking effect is not a problem with naturally balanced estrogen levels, but when the estriol level is maintained at a higher than physiological amount–as often occurs with hormone restoration therapy–estriol can block the receptors and reduce the effectiveness of estradiol used for symptom-management.

This scenario may lead to a greater amount of estradiol being used to achieve desired results, resulting in more estrogen metabolites that may in turn affect DNA.
